A fixed term 36-month VPS4 Legal Policy Officer position Use your strong legal and communication skills to develop criminal law policy and legislation within the Attorney-General's portfolio Contribute to a dynamic and busy team VPS Grade 4: $97,955 - $111,142 plus superannuation About Us: Are you interested in being at the cutting edge of legislation and policy development for criminal law reforms? If so consider applying to join us in the Criminal Law Policy Branch (Courts, Civil and Criminal Law Group). We provide legal policy and reform expertise to the Attorney-General to deliver on their criminal law policy responsibilities and the legislative reform program. We work collaboratively with key entities across the justice system and the department to ensure policy reform is strategic, relevant, holistic and people-centred We are responsible for developing policy and legislative reform in a broad range of areas, including offence reform (including sexual offences), sentencing, criminal procedure (e.g. committal and appeal processes), jury directions and evidence. About the Role: The Legal Policy Officer is responsible for contributing to the co-ordination, research, development, implementation, review and reform of policy and legislation across the Attorney-General's criminal law portfolio. You will join an inclusive and supportive group and be provided with a range of training and development opportunities. About You: As our ideal candidate you will: have knowledge of and/or experience in legal policy and/or relevant legal practice be resilient, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities be a strong communicator, both in writing and orally have the ability to understand and take into account the priorities of various groups and individuals when developing options for responding to policy problems, and have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
