We are excited to be opening a new shop on Pakington Street, Geelong. This new Thrift Shop will be fully sourced by local donations and all profits made go to funding vital community activities and programs across the local area.
About the role
We are seeking for a values-driven and proactive Thrift Shop Manager. This role will be instrumental in leading the operations of the new store in ensuring quality customer service, diligence in cash handling, quality sorting of donated goods, pricing and maintaining the general appearance and upkeep of the shop.
You will be responsible for fostering a culture of inclusiveness and community amongst the volunteer team, which will in turn enhance the customer experience in the store. The Thrift Shop Manager is responsible for the direct supervision and recruitment of all volunteers.
You will successfully
- Encourage local community and businesses to donate quality goods to maintain sales
- Implement appropriate retail sales opportunities internally and externally to maximise sales including in store promotions, attending periodic or seasonal local markets
- Ensure the recruitment, maintenance, and direction of volunteers, employees, Assistant Managers and/or Day Supervisors to ensure the store runs efficiently
- Administration of all levels of compliance and training of volunteers in the workplace
- Manage store financial processes including completion of daily cash reconciliation, preparation of cash floats and banking, minimisation of stock losses and cash handling procedures are followed
- Ensure all staff and volunteer records are updated and maintained in relevant database or file
- Lead a safe workplace through the ongoing promotion of work health and safety standards
- Implement WH&S; compliance requirements including holding WH&S; meetings, completion of WH&S; inspections and maintenance of a notice board
This is a permanent full-time position, based in Geelong, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with General Retail Industry Award Level 6.
You will have
- Experience in customer service
- Experience in managing a team preferably volunteers
- Experience working in Retail (highly desirable)
- Complete Provide First Aid (PFA) training and be willing to be designated First Aid Provider when on site (Appointment to cover cost of First Aid training (if certification not already valid), and/or biannual updates)
- Experience in building a culture of consultation and collaboration
- Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
This position will require physical ability to safely stand, sit, walk regularly and for long periods of time. Some responsibilities require the Manager to push, pull, lift, carry and restrain stock, climb ladders, and operate a cash register and EFTPOS machine. This will all be in line with WHS policies and procedures.
