This is an exciting opportunity for an existing ICU clinician within MLHD, with strong leadership capability, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to shaping the future of critical care across MLHD.

Where you'll be working

You’ll be working with a supportive and collaborative medical leadership team committed to excellence, staff wellbeing, and service innovation.

What you’ll be doing

* Provide strategic and operational leadership for ICU services at WWBH, ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care.
* Oversee clinical governance, workforce management, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
* Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team, promoting a culture of learning, respect, and collaboration.
* Contribute to hospital‑wide planning, critical care resource allocation, and emergency preparedness.
* Support education, supervision and mentoring for medical staff, and help advance teaching and research activity within the department.
* Ensure compliance with NSW Health and MLHD policies, including infection prevention, safety and mandatory training requirements.

Key Challenges

* Balancing significant clinical and managerial responsibilities in a dynamic, high‑acuity environment.
* Managing workforce demand, patient flow, and resource constraints in a regional setting.
* Leading service improvement and innovation while maintaining high standards of clinical care and safety.
* Providing strong leadership during surge events, major incidents and other critical periods.

Essential Requirements

* Registration with AHPRA as a Specialist Intensive Care Medicine Physician (FCICM or equivalent).
* Senior clinical experience within ICU and demonstrated excellence in clinical leadership.
* National Police Check and NSW Working With Children Check (Employee).
* Compliance with NSW Health vaccination, respirator fit‑testing and facial‑hair safety requirements.

Selection Criteria

* Demonstrated leadership capability, including strong negotiation and communication skills.
* Ability to enhance multidisciplinary teamwork.
* Experience in innovative service planning and policy development.
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate and build effective clinical teams.
* Understanding of health system funding and Activity Based Funding frameworks.
* Experience in leading quality improvement initiatives.
