The Role
This is a hands‑on training, compliance and recruitment support role. You'll spend most of your time improving driver capability, ensuring compliance standards are met and helping onboard new team members. You'll work closely with Operations Managers across the group to deliver quality training, coaching and assessments.
Key Responsibilities
Daily / Ongoing
* Deliver classroom and practical inductions for new drivers
* Conduct annual re‑inductions for existing drivers
* Review driver job applications, shortlist suitable applicants and conduct interviews (phone and in‑person)
* Complete pre‑employment driver assessments and licence/WWC/DA checks
* Review driver work diaries daily, correct errors and provide coaching
* Complete regular live driving shifts across all service types to maintain current knowledge
* Provide ongoing coaching in fatigue management, route knowledge, safe driving and customer service
* Maintain and update specialised training packs (School Runs, V/Line, Metro, Charters)
Weekly
* Maintain and update the group's driver training records database
* Run GPS reports for V/Line services, follow up late services, and coach drivers
* Conduct at least one scheduled weekly safety audit (licensing, PDs, defect reporting, equipment, scheduled services)
* Carry out spot checks at depots and school locations (uniform, licences, PD/defect books)
* Provide Operations with overdue Safety Hub training lists and follow up completions
As Required
* Assist with random and post‑incident Drug & Alcohol testing
* Attend performance management meetings and provide follow‑up practical training
* Support recruitment days and community events
* Help develop new training initiatives as the group grows
What We're Looking For
Must Have
* Current Heavy Rigid (HR) licence
* Held a Victorian Driver Accreditation within the last 5 years
* Strong, proven safe driving history
* Supportive communication style — able to coach without intimidating
* Comfortable with technology (GPS, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, LMS)
* Current Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
Highly Regarded
* Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
* Previous experience training or coaching heavy vehicle drivers
* Bus/coach industry experience (school, route or charter)
* Knowledge of NHVR fatigue laws and work diary requirements
