A trusted client is seeking a motivated Cyber Security Engineer to join their growing team in Canberra. This role is ideal for someone passionate about cybersecurity, eager to develop their expertise, and committed to protecting critical systems and information.

About the Role
Working closely with a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of secure, resilient environments across a range of technologies. You'll support internal and external stakeholders, respond to incidents, and assist with audit and remediation activities. This position suits someone proactive, enthusiastic, and driven to achieve strong technical and service outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the implementation and uplift of cybersecurity controls, including the Essential Eight.
* Assist with incident response, remediation activities, and security investigations.
* Contribute to audit, compliance, and remediation projects.
* Manage and support Microsoft 365 security and tenancy configurations.
* Work with a range of security tools and technologies across EDR, application control, vulnerability management, DLP, IDS/IPS, SIEM, IAM, and cloud security.
* Translate technical cyber concepts into clear, customer?friendly language.
* Collaborate with team members to deliver high?quality outcomes aligned with organisational goals.
* Work towards KPIs set by the Technical Services Manager and Senior Cyber Security Engineer.
* Maintain a strong focus on service excellence and stakeholder engagement.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Strong interest in cybersecurity and a desire to grow professionally.
* Experience delivering Essential Eight or similar control implementations.
* Understanding of common cybersecurity standards and frameworks.
* Experience with vulnerability management tools.
* Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non?technical audiences.
* Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments.
* Exposure to one or more security domains: EDR, application control, vulnerability management, DLP, IDS/IPS, network security, SIEM, IAM, cloud security.
* Ability to obtain an AGSVA security clearance (Australian citizens only).
Desired Skills & Experience
* Relevant industry certifications.
* Knowledge of cloud security across Azure and/or AWS.
* Experience in an MSP or help desk environment.
* Understanding of the ISM and PSPF.
