Job Summary:
Early-career Design Engineer opportunity for a mechanical engineering graduate to develop high‐voltage power infrastructure equipment in a hands‐on manufacturing environment.
About This Position:
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in high‐voltage switchgear equipment used across power transmission and distribution networks.
This role is suited to a mechanical engineering graduate with several years of design experience who is looking to develop deeper expertise in engineering design within a real manufacturing environment.
Working closely with senior engineers, production teams, and suppliers, you will contribute to the design and improvement of equipment used in substations and power infrastructure projects.
Unlike purely desk‐based engineering roles, this position provides direct exposure to the full lifecycle of engineering design through to manufacturing and production.
What does your next role look like?
* Design and develop components for high‐voltage air‐break switchgear equipment
* Produce accurate manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation
* Create and maintain 3D CAD models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
* Develop and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering release documentation
* Collaborate with production teams to improve manufacturability and product performance
* Liaise with suppliers regarding materials, tooling, and design‐for‐manufacture considerations
* Support investigation of production or field issues and root cause analysis
* Assist with product testing, design validation, and engineering improvements
What you'll bring to the role:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
* Around 3+ years of engineering design experience
* Strong experience using AutoCAD for engineering drawings
* Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks
* Understanding of manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and production processes
* Strong attention to detail and structured technical documentation skills
* Interest in working closely with manufacturing and production teams
* Full Australian work rights
* Experience in power transmission, distribution equipment, switchgear, or electrical infrastructure manufacturing will be highly regarded.
Location:
Northern suburbs of Melbourne (Epping manufacturing facility) – Free parking available onsite
Working Hour:
Full‐time position (8:30–17:00, Monday – Friday)
Salary range:
$90K – $110K + Super
Working flexibility:
This role is primarily onsite due to the manufacturing environment. However, flexibility may be considered depending on individual circumstances and workload requirements.
Start From:
Immediate start preferred, but we are flexible for the right candidate.
What this opportunity offers:
* Work in a hands‐on engineering environment connected directly to manufacturing
* Develop expertise in power infrastructure equipment used across transmission and substations
* Work alongside experienced senior engineers and technical specialists
* Build strong technical capability in mechanical design for engineered products
* Long‐term career development opportunities within a specialised engineering field
