About Us
Capital Chemist has been part of the Canberra community since 1978 and has grown into a network of almost 50 pharmacies across the ACT, NSW and Tasmania.
Behind the scenes, our Head Office team supports our pharmacies to operate at a high level - commercially, operationally and for the communities they serve. We’re a close-knit, high-performing team that values being practical, supportive and easy to work with.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Junior Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our Head Office team, based on the Kingston Foreshore.
This role is ideal for someone with 1-2 years’ experience, or a strong graduate who is keen to learn quickly and get exposure to real business operations.
You’ll work closely with our Lead Accountant and Group Accountant, supporting financial operations across multiple pharmacies. In time you won’t just be processing transactions - you’ll get visibility of full P&Ls, work directly with Partners (business owners), and build a strong foundation for a career in accounting.
There is a clear pathway to grow into an Accountant role, with support to complete your CA or CPA.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Processing and reconciling financial transactions across multiple entities
* Supporting accounts payable and receivable
* Preparing bank, credit card and loan reconciliations
* Recording pharmacy revenue (including Medicare/PBS) and rebates
* Assisting with BAS preparation and compliance requirements
* Supporting month-end processes and reporting
* Contributing to a team that values accuracy, efficiency and continuous improvement
About You
You’re someone who is proactive, reliable and enjoys getting things done. You take pride in accuracy, but you also understand that finance is there to support the business, not slow it down.
You’re not rigid or set in your ways - you’re curious, open to feedback, and happy to roll up your sleeves to help the team.
You’ll likely bring:
* Formal qualifications in accounting or bookkeeping (e.g. Certificate IV or Bachelor of Business/Accounting)
* 1–2 years’ bookkeeping or accounting experience, or the capability to step up as a strong graduate
* Experience with MYOB or similar accounting software
* Working knowledge of GST, BAS and general compliance requirements
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
* Confidence communicating and building effective working relationships
* A collaborative, proactive mindset and willingness to learn
* The ability to learn quickly while balancing accuracy and efficiency
* Australian permanent residency or citizenship
Why Us
* Head Office location on the Kingston Foreshore
* Support to complete CA or CPA
* A supportive, high-performing team that values collaboration and kindness
* Regular team events and offsites
* A role where you’ll learn quickly and grow your career
* Exposure to real business performance and decision-making as you progress
* Potential for flexible working down the track
We’re looking to move quickly and will interview as strong candidates apply.
