People Business Partner | Corporate Services

Slater andGordon Lawyers are a leading personal injury and class actions law firm where every member of our team has a shared passion for our clients: we are people caring for people.

Our commitment to our people includes offering genuine work‐life balance, with a hybrid work environment allowing them to split their time between home and the office. We recognise and reward high performance and have outstanding employee benefits including a week of shutdown leave, paid parental leave, extra‐long service leave, together with various ongoing learning and professional development opportunities.

What are we looking for?

We are now seeking an experienced People Business Partner to join our Melbourne team. This is a hands‐on role supporting members of our Executive Leadership Team and their groups, primarily across our Corporate Services functions.

Reporting to the Head of People Experience, this role forms part of a national People team based in Melbourne, with occasional interstate travel required.

As a true People Business Partner, you will be responsible for:

* Developing a strong understanding of our Corporate Services groups and their business objectives, and partnering with them to design and deliver their people strategies
* Leading and managing employment relations matters, including disciplinary processes, investigations, grievances and performance management, and coaching and guiding people leaders on their responsibilities
* Advising people leaders on issues such as performance management, remuneration and benefits, and general industrial/employee relations
* Supporting the delivery of annual cycle activities including the annual performance and salary review cycle, annual promotions, and other projects or key initiatives as required
* Driving workforce planning initiatives and supporting the recruitment team in prioritising the recruitment needs of your business units
* Providing operational support for governance processes (for example recruitment approvals, offers, and changes to employment terms and conditions)
* Supporting other HR requirements and administration related to the above, noting that our People Business Partners are supported by a competent HR Helpdesk / Administration team

What will you bring?

Ideally you will be able to join our team immediately and be a quick learner with previous professional services experience. In addition, our ideal team member will have:

* A degree in HR or a related field
* Solid Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner experience, ideally working within an Enterprise Agreement (EA) environment
* Strong experience leading employment relations and disciplinary matters
* Experience supporting a geographically dispersed client group
* Excellent stakeholder management skills and an ability to quickly build rapport
* Proven time management and organisational skills
* Strong attention to detail
* An ability to manage expectations and proactively and effectively communicate with stakeholders

At Slater and Gordon, we are committed to helping our clients unlock justice and to creating a workplace where our people can do their best work. You will join a collaborative national People team that values openness, accountability and continuous improvement.

What next?

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply directly to Slater and Gordon. We prefer to talk with you personally and are not accepting applications from recruitment agencies.

To be eligible for this position, you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid visa with full and unrestricted working rights in Australia. Proof of work rights will be required as part of the Slater and Gordon application process.

Acknowledgement of Country

Slater and Gordon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations peoples today.
