Our client is an Aboriginal corporation with responsibilities spanning land, heritage, community and commercial matters throughout the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
The organisation operates within an environment where governance, regional relationships, operational delivery and long‐term decision making are closely connected. The role of the CEO reflects that reality.
The Board is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to oversee the organisation's operations and work alongside Directors on matters affecting the future direction of the organisation.
The position carries genuine day‐to‐day authority across the organisation. The Board's expectation is not that the CEO operates as an administrator to governance, nor as a distant corporate executive removed from operations. The role requires judgement across both.
There are established foundations within the organisation, alongside areas that continue to evolve as the scale and visibility of the organisation increases. The Board is looking for an executive who can provide clarity, consistency and capable organisational leadership without creating unnecessary complexity around the role.
This is unlikely to suit someone seeking a highly structured corporate environment. The setting is more direct than that.
The CEO will work across operational leadership, organisational management, external relationships and matters connected to land, heritage and broader member interests. At times the role will require balance, perspective and patience more than speed.
The Board is seeking an executive capable of building a functional and credible working relationship between governance and operations, while maintaining steady oversight of the organisation itself.
Experience working within Aboriginal organisations, Traditional Owner groups, Native Title environments or similarly community‐connected organisations will be important. The nature of the role requires an appreciation of the responsibilities, sensitivities and expectations that exist within member‐based organisations operating in regional environments.
The Board is also seeking an executive with strong commercial capability and the ability to work confidently across Native Title matters, agreements, partnerships, projects and longer‐term economic development opportunities connected to the organisation and the region.
The breadth of the role is likely to appeal to executives who prefer direct organisational involvement and a closer connection between leadership, governance and outcomes.
The position can be based in Perth with regular time spent in Karratha, or permanently in Karratha. Regardless of location, the role will require a regular presence within both the organisation and the region.
