Expert in Toxicology Advice

We are seeking a skilled pharmacist to join the largest Poisons Information Centre (PIC) in Australia and train as a Specialist in Poisons Information (SPI). The centre provides poisons information to the public and toxicology advice to healthcare professionals, with 24/7 telephone support. The role is based at The Sydney Children's Hospital Network, Westmead campus, with on-site work required during initial training and flexible remote arrangements thereafter.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical information to healthcare professionals and the public via telephone regarding poisoning assessment and treatment, drug queries, bites, and stings.
* Assess patients exposed to toxins and advise on home care or referral to a healthcare facility.
* Advise medical professionals on management and prognosis of poisonings; advise on bites, stings, pregnancy, and lactation effects, and drug interactions.
* Record information accurately into the database during calls; actively audit Poisons Information Centre call records during each shift.
Requirements
* Full registration or eligibility for full registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA, with no restrictions on scope of practice.
* Eligibility for employment Grade 1/Grade 2 Pharmacist as per the Health Services State Award for Pharmacists.
* Demonstrated relevant clinical pharmacy experience (including a busy clinical environment).
* Excellent drug information skills and knowledge of pharmacology and toxicology.
* Ability to quickly search and interpret electronic medical and drug information.
* Willingness to work a 24-hour roster including weekends, evenings, and overnights as required by service delivery.
