At RSPCA Queensland, we're committed to delivering exceptional animal welfare and care services. We're currently seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our Dakabin Hospital team on a part-time basis.
Job Description
As a Veterinary Nurse at RSPCA Queensland, you'll be responsible for providing high-quality medical, behavioural, and shelter-based care to animals across both our domestic hospital and onsite animal shelter. Your duties will include:
* Providing hands-on care to hospital and shelter animals, including husbandry, cleaning enclosures, medicating, and daily welfare checks.
* Monitoring inpatients and communicating medical updates to veterinarians.
* Safely restraining and handling various species, including behaviourally challenging animals.
* Monitoring patients under sedation and general anaesthesia, completing accurate anaesthetic charts, and administering medications (oral, topical, aural) and performing SQ, IM, and IV injections, including IV catheter placement.
* Conducting basic and advanced diagnostic procedures and recognising behavioural markers, applying appropriate handling strategies.
* Triage incoming and in-house patients to ensure timely and appropriate care.
* Supporting neonatal care for puppies and kittens.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
* A Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
* 5+ years' experience in a similar clinical setting or proven competency in the required tasks.
* A genuine passion for animal welfare and strong alignment to our mission and values.
* Excellent communication skills – with your team, vets, and across departments.
* Strong problem-solving skills and good clinical judgement.
* A collaborative, can-do approach to teamwork.
* Reliable time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
