Role Overview
The Systems Engineer is accountable under general direction to design, implement, sustain, and optimise enterprise endpoint configuration management capabilities based on Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (MECM). They support Defence and large enterprise programs by delivering secure, compliant, and reliable endpoint management solutions in accordance with approved architectures, security policies, and governance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Engineer, administer, and maintain enterprise‐scale MECM solutions in line with approved designs and technology roadmaps, delivering endpoint configuration management outcomes including application deployment, operating system deployment (OSD), patch management, and compliance enforcement.
* Develop, test, and maintain application packages, task sequences, collections, deployment workflows, driver repositories, and build standards, and manage Windows endpoint patching (servers).
* Configure and sustain Software Update Points (SUPs), Automatic Deployment Rules (ADRs), maintenance windows, configuration baselines, compliance controls, and remediation actions in accordance with organisational patching, security, and assurance requirements.
* Perform technical investigation and resolution of MECM‐related issues affecting clients, site systems, and content distribution, and contribute to system integration, verification, validation, and acceptance activities.
* Produce and maintain technical documentation, engineering artefacts, and standard operating procedures; develop and maintain PowerShell‐based automation for deployment, monitoring, and reporting; and collaborate effectively with project managers, architects, security teams, and service operations.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
* Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft MECM in Defence or large‐enterprise environments, with knowledge of modern endpoint management practices and exposure to Microsoft Intune and Co‐Management concepts.
* Strong technical knowledge of Windows client operating systems, Active Directory, and Group Policy, and experience delivering patching and compliance outcomes in regulated environments.
* Experience with application packaging and deployment technologies including MSI, MSIX, and scripted installers, supported by working‐level PowerShell scripting capability.
* Ability to work effectively within multi‐disciplinary teams, supported by strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Requirements
Australian citizenship and a minimum NV‐1 security clearance with willingness to uplift to NV‐2.
