 
        
        **About IFARES**: 
IFARES is a recruitment readiness training program for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people residing within NSW and ACT (when applicable). This initiative has been designed by Aboriginal Fire and Rescue NSW staff together with our training partner, TAFE to increase the access for the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people of NSW to enter careers with FRNSW. IFARES participants complete training from FRNSW and undertake Certificate III qualification provided by TAFE NSW. 
While IFARES is not a paid opportunity, it may lead to a permanent role as a firefighter with FRNSW. The next intake will commence early December 2025 with a 2-day in-person workshop in Sydney. The IFARES program concludes in September/October 2026. 
**About you**: 
To be considered for IFARES, you: 
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander 
- Are an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen 
- Are 18 years of age or older 
- Reside within NSW for the duration of the program 
- Hold a valid Australian driver’s licence, minimum Provisional (Red P1 or State/Territory equivalent) with demonstrated eligibility for Green P2 by the conclusion of the IFARES program 
- Full licence holders must not exceed a maximum of 7 demerit points 
- Provisional licence holder must not exceed a maximum of 1 demerit point 
- Safe and responsible driving history
