Admin support role at AIATSIS Ethics Team: coordinate meetings, manage records, engage stakeholders, uphold governance policies
For more than 50 years, the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) has developed and been the custodian of a unique collection that has contributed to building understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ culture and heritage.
AIATSIS care for a growing collection of more than 1 million items encompassing films, photographs, audio recordings, art and objects, printed and other resource material as well as conduct research. With global partnerships that include government, academic and cultural sectors, working with AIATSIS will see you contribute to telling the nation’s story.
The Opportunity
The Ethics Team is an integral part of the Research and Education Group and is responsible for leading and influencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research, ethics and protocols. This is an opportunity for a high performing APS3 to take the next step in their career or would be a great role for an existing APS4 seeking a new challenge.

The Role
This position sits within the Research Ethics Committee (REC), a high performing but small team of 3. The Research Officers within the Group conduct research to support projects, engage with communities and stakeholders, produce and maintain useful resources, assist in holding forums and events, and contribute to innovative communication and publication outputs and reporting on outcomes.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
* Provide administrative support to the Ethics team, including management of the Ethics Mailbox, meeting and travel logistics
* Manage reporting, records and databases and routine financial processes
* Provide support to the Secretariat Officer to the Research Ethics Committee
* Actively contribute to a positive team culture
* Contribute to team planning and outcomes that implement the strategic direction of AIATSIS and the Research Ethics Committee
* Provide support to the Assistant Director and Secretariat Officer in coordination of internal reporting
* Engage with stakeholders and support networks
Your Background and Experience
You will need to have demonstrated experience in the provision of administrative support services, in either the APS or private sector. The ability to work in a fast- paced environment and bring a can- do attitude.
* Work well under pressure with competing priorities
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise your workload and support other colleague to achieve business objectives
* Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal competencies to capably provide and assure quality outputs.
* A commitment to service underpinned by a desire to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders and colleagues
* Knowledge or the ability to gain knowledge in the application of human research ethics policies and guidelines.
* Experience working with Electronic Documents and Records Management Systems (EDRMS), and Research and Ethics Compliance Software will be well regarded, but not essential
Salary / Rate
$65,614 – $71,621 + 15.4% Super
* This role will be offered initially as a 12 month non-ongoing contract, or labour hire or s26 for an exceptional candidate should they require it
* Only Australian citizens will be considered for this role
* Must be eligible to obtain/maintain a Baseline clearance
