What you will be doing:
• Assisting in the development and implementation of strategic policy for Government (including researching and analysing complex policy issues, developing options on policy challenges and providing strategic advice) while responding to the needs of key stakeholders.
• Developing a detailed and thorough understanding of the practical and operational aspects and impacts of legislation relevant to Queensland's building and construction industry.
• Undertaking research into the continuous improvement of Queensland building legislation so it aligns with national and international trends and best practice.
• Developing and implementing effective communication, engagement and consultation strategies for both internal and external stakeholders on policy and legislation issues relating to the building and construction industry.
• Preparing high level briefing documents (such as Cabinet and Executive Council documents, Parliamentary briefing notes, submissions, correspondence and consultation papers) on complex policy issues and proposals for a variety of audiences and purposes.
• Promoting and maintaining a high performance and continuous improvement-oriented culture, consistent with the department's values, employment equity and workplace health and safety principles and practices.
The skills you will need include being able to:
• Demonstrate ability to advise on and interpret legislation, standards, policies, guidelines and practices.
• Demonstrate ability to analyse complex information and draw accurate conclusions based on evidence.
• Demonstrate high level understanding of policy development and legislative processes, including Queensland Legislation Handbook and Queensland Government's Better Regulation Policy.
• Demonstrate ability to prepare and provide high quality written and oral advice to a leadership team and stakeholders on a range of complex policy issues.
• Demonstrate experience or familiarity with legislation relevant to building and construction industry such as the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 and the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 or demonstrate capacity to rapidly achieve this knowledge and understanding.
