About the role
The Enterprise Integration Engineer will ensure the efficient, automated, and reliable deployment of integration solutions across a large-scale federal government enterprise environment. The role will design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure APIs, working with cross-functional teams to support testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution. This position sits within a technical delivery team and plays a key part in ensuring enterprise systems remain connected, secure, and high performing.
Key responsibilities
* Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to design and develop integration solutions using Microsoft Azure tools (App Services, Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus).
* Design, develop, and implement APIs ensuring reusability, reliability, scalability, and security. Manage API versions and transitions.
* Write clean, efficient, maintainable code for integration components.
* Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, working across teams to identify root causes.
* Conduct code reviews and plan comprehensive testing, including unit, integration, and regression testing.
* Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimise speed and scalability.
* Maintain technical documentation, including API endpoints, authentication methods, and deployment procedures.
* Work with developers, analysts, testers, and stakeholders to align DevOps practices with project goals.
* Provide input into architectural decisions and cloud strategy.
* Ensure compliance with Australian Government security frameworks (ISM, PSPF) and privacy legislation.
* Support change management and release coordination.
* Stay updated on technologies, integration patterns, and best practices to enhance processes.
* Monitor and troubleshoot workflows to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity.
Desirable criteria
* Understanding and practical experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and Domain Driven Design principles.
* Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps.
* Proficiency in Git, YAML, ARM, Bicep, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
* Knowledge of security testing tools and practices (SAST, DAST).
* Familiarity with Micro Focus Fortify, SailPoint, Service Now, and AWS.
* Experience delivering results within time constraints and competing priorities.
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Skills and experience (essential criteria)
* Proven software development experience with C#, .NET Core, and SQL.
* Demonstrated expertise in Azure integration services (Functions, Service Bus, Logic Apps, Event Grid, APIM).
* Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure services and cloud storage.
* Experience building secure web services with OAuth, OpenID, and JWT.
* Knowledge of microservices, data transformation, and interoperability standards (JSON, XML, REST, SOAP, gRPC, GraphQL).
* Strong understanding of RESTful API design principles and frameworks.
* Familiarity with databases, data structures, and integration patterns.
* Experience with API testing tools and methods.
* Strong communication skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams.
* Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
* Experience engaging diverse stakeholders across legal, policy, technical, and operational areas.
* Understanding of Australian Government security and privacy requirements.
