Join the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary and play a vital role in nurturing the gardens that support Australia's largest butterfly flight aviary.

As Garden Team Leader, you'll lead a dedicated horticulture team, maintain the highest organic standards, and ensure year‐round supply of host and nectar plants essential to butterfly and caterpillar welfare.

About the Role

This hands‐on leadership role is responsible for the health, presentation, sustainability, and ongoing development of all sanctuary gardens.

You will report to the Lab Supervisor and work closely with other departments to ensure garden operations align with animal welfare, guest experience, and CaPTA Group sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead from the front, working alongside garden staff day‐to‐day

· Coordinate rostering, onboarding, training and ongoing staff support

· Maintain all gardens using organic horticultural and IPM practices

· Plan, grow and source host and nectar plants to meet year‐round needs

· Actively monitor plant health, pests and disease, keeping clear, accurate records

· Work closely with Lab, Guest Services and Maintenance teams

· Positively engage with visitors when required, sharing practical garden knowledge

· Ensure gardens, tools and public areas are safe, tidy and well presented

· Complete rosters, timesheets and maintenance logs using Office 365 / SharePoint

· Drive practical sustainability initiatives, including composting, waste reduction and water efficiency

· Model safe work behaviours and complete WHS risk assessments

About You

You are a motivated leader with a passion for organic horticulture and environmental sustainability, and you thrive working outdoors in a tropical environment.

You will bring:

* Demonstrated experience in horticulture or garden management (supervisory experience preferred)
* Strong leadership and communication skills
* Solid knowledge of organic gardening principles
* Intermediate computer skills (Excel, Word, SharePoint)
* A current Australian Driver's Licence
