About the Role An ongoing position is available in the English as an Additional Language Unit. The Languages and Multicultural Education Resource Centre (LMERC) Lead Officer, manages a small library, specialising in providing resources in all formats for English as an Additional Language (EAL), languages and the cross-curriculum priority areas. The purpose of this role is to manage all aspects of library operations including supervising staff and prioritising tasks, managing the budget, collecting statistics on usage, contributing to internal reports, developing the collection (purchasing physical and digital resources) and assisting patrons to find resources. The Lead Officer also involves promoting the library and relevant resources including in person or online presentations to teachers and pre-service teachers, writing and disseminating a newsletter twice each term and creating libguides. The role also establishes and maintains productive stakeholder relationships to share information and organise collaborative professional learning events. The role is part of the EAL Unit and in addition to work being undertaken physically at the library, is responsible for contributing to meeting the broader objectives of the unit including supporting the development of curriculum resources and other EAL supports for schools. The Lead Officer is responsible for managing one library technician. The role reports to the Manager, EAL Unit. The EAL Unit is part of the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division. Within SEPS, the Statewide Programs and Tech Schools Division (SPaTS) has a central role in ensuring schools can access the programs and supports they need so that all students, including cohorts who may need additional supports, can excel at school. We achieve this by designing and delivering programs, developing operational policy and advice, and providing resources and guidance to schools. Specifically, we deliver programs and resources to: * Help all students thrive at schools, for example the Glasses for Kids * Program and guidance and resources to support the transition from primary to secondary school * Help teachers deliver the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom, in ways that support student learning and wellbeing - through Tech Schools and STEM centres, School Sport Victoria, swimming programs, State Schools Spectacular, the Strategic Partnerships Program and English as an Additional Language resources * Support priority cohorts of students, including CALD and refugee students, and rural and regional students. The role reports to the Manager, EAL Unit. Candidates who are first time managers, returning to work, or applying to the department from a school are all encouraged to apply.
