With a strong legacy, Darlot is focused on the future, optimising production and driving exploration programs to extend the mine’s lifespan and uncover new resources. The Darlot mine is located about 900 km northeast of Perth and 121 km north of Leonora, in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the Graduate Geotechnical Engineer position will be involved in the initial stages of geotechnical projects, focusing on data collection, analysis, and reporting under the Senior Geotechnical Engineer's supervision. Furthermore, monitoring ground behaviours in conjunction with quality assurance and quality control duties will help optimise production while focusing on safety. Position will be offered on an 8:6 FIFO roster from Perth.
Responsibilities
- Work under the guidance and instruction of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
- Further develop an understanding of procedures in respect to ground stability/ground monitoring/control, and mine infrastructure (underground and open pit).
- Undertake a variety of underground and open pit geotechnical field work tasks in line with the role requirements, experience level, and business needs, e.g., core logging, sample collection and preparation, Q/Q’-mapping, wall mapping (Open Pit).
- Conduct geotechnical data collection and analysis for ground support and stope design criteria.
- Documentation of the behaviors of rock masses, along with quality control and quality assurance measures, is essential for performance evaluation.
- Follow up on Rock Noise reports and communicate promptly.
- Conduct Monthly Ground Support Audits, providing methods for addressing key concerns (Issue additional support plans and defect notices).
- Ensuring that all geotechnical-related data and information are methodically archived and stored in a manner that makes them accessible.
- Measure and visually assess the stability of the key pillars in the mine with guidance from the Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
- Contribute to the numerical model for the underground workings to support mining activities.
- Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in training underground crews on the importance of ground support and ‘reading the ground’.
- Provide Geotechnical data and information for EOM Reports (underground and open pit).
- Ensure that all geotechnical equipment (underground and open pit) is maintained and functional.
About You
- Bachelor of Engineering or Science with a Geotechnical specialisation
- Developing an understanding of the statutory requirements of the Western Australian Mining Act and Regulations, as well as the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act.
- Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to learn appropriate mining software packages and tools:
- Deswik
- Leapfrog
- AcQuire
- GEM4D
- Rocscience software (Unwedge, DIPS, RS3, and Slide2).
- Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class)
