About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Pit Geologist who is equally comfortable in the pit and behind the workstation. In this role, you will lead ore control activities within the open pit, including identifying and marking ore zones, defining key orebody controls, and ensuring accurate material classification before it is delivered to the ROM.
The Pit Geologist will also play a key role in supporting operational activities such as ore and wall control shots and final wall sign-offs, ensuring these critical tasks are completed consistently, even during periods when the Senior Geologist is off site.
Working closely with operations and the broader geology team, you will contribute to short- to medium-term geological planning and assist with exploration programs across EQR tenements. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small, agile team environment and wants to make an immediate impact in a growing critical minerals mining operation.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead ore control activities within the open pit, including mapping, sampling, and marking ore and waste boundaries.
* Identify and manage high iron and other gangue materials to ensure only suitable material is sent to the ROM.
* Conduct regular pit inspections to support accurate geological interpretation and orebody control.
* Provide timely geological advice to mining operations to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
* Manage grade control sampling programs and ensure accurate data collection and recording.
* Interpret geological and assay data to support short- to medium-term mine planning.
* Monitor and manage PAF and NAF material classification and stockpile management.
* Assist with ore wall control shots and complete final wall geological sign-offs.
* Collaborate with the operations team to support safe and efficient mining practices.
* Contribute to resource modelling updates and maintain geological databases.
* Assist in planning and supervising exploration activities across EQR tenements.
* Ensure compliance with company safety standards, environmental requirements, and geological procedures.
Key Selection Criteria:
* Degree in Geology or Geoscience.
* Experience in open pit mining with strong ore control and grade control capability.
* Ability to identify ore, waste, and deleterious materials to support ROM management.
* Experience in geological mapping, sampling, and interpretation in an operational mine environment.
* Familiarity with geological databases, modelling software (e.g. Leapfrog, Surpac, Datamine) and MS Office.
* Strong practical skills in pit mark-up, ore control, and daily geological decision-making.
* Understanding of resource modelling and geostatistical concepts.
* Experience managing field assistants, contractors, or small exploration programs.
* Knowledge of drill and blast processes, including ore wall control and final wall sign-offs.
* Strong safety focus, communication skills, and ability to work in a small team.
* JORC certification and exposure to narrow vein deposits desirable.
* Current C Class Driver's Licence.
* Familiar with use of field hand held XRF
