About the role
The Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS) provides antenatal and postnatal care in the community, from as early as possible in pregnancy to up to eight weeks after birth. AMIHS links closely with other maternity services and our Building Strong Foundations (BSF) team, to ensure that risk management, education and support are available. AMIHS is part of the wider Children, Young People and Families Service (CYPFS), which includes a multidisciplinary team of allied health workers and nurses. The AMIHS Aboriginal Health Worker works closely with our local health district’s other Aboriginal Health Worker to ensure cultural connections and a supportive work environment.
The AMIHS team offers services including:
- Regular antenatal checks
- Help with booking into maternity hospitals
- Referral and support to access other services
- Postnatal checks and support to attend child and family health services
- Health promotion and community activities
- Support and information on nutrition and feeding
- Support to access quit smoking programs
You will be part of a supportive team of AMIHS workers and Building Strong Foundations workers within the wider Children, Young People and Families Service. The successful applicant will receive orientation and training, including mandatory AMIHS education. We encourage and support both internal and external support, with regular cultural supervision and Local Health District linkage to other AMIHS teams and Aboriginal Health Workers.
