**The Role**
Key roles and accountabilities:
- Provide leadership in the development of DSTG processes to ensure risk reduction for the operation of UAS operations conducted as part of research.
- Accountable for supporting the Authorising Officer in line with the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations to ensure safety risks are eliminated or controlled so far as is reasonably practical.
- Providing oversight for development of governance and compliance monitoring arrangements across DSTG.
- Building and sustaining effective relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders including researchers, Defence Aviation Safety Authority and other hazard specialist leads.
- Under limited guidance, ensure a high-level of integration and consistency in support of all DSTG
- Leading to provision of support for Aviation Operations used across DSTG used to support research outcomes.
- Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, sharing expertise with others and guiding and mentoring less experienced staff in aviation safety.
- Working with research staff to deliver strategies to reduce the risks from aviation and UAS research activities, including building awareness of the Defence Aviation Safety Regulations across DSTG.
- Oversight all Aviation Operations related work health and safety documentation to ensure it is aligned with Defence epolicy, is effective and provides value in supporting safety and research outcomes.

DSTG Principal Aviation Safety Lead reports to Chief Platforms through the Director Division Operations and is part of a
dynamic team with members based in Edinburgh (SA), Fishermans Bend (VIC) and Eveleigh (NSW).
