About the Role
* Contractor position (Australian residents only)
* Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required
* Perth‐based, with the majority of work south of the river
* Autonomous role with direct client interaction
* Clear pathway and mentoring toward becoming a qualified Marine Surveyor
Qualifications & Experience
* Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology (or equivalent)
* Minimum 8 years' experience as a trade‐qualified Marine Mechanic
* Experience inspecting and working on vessels approximately 30–80ft
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and professional judgement
* Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule
Tasks & Responsibilities
* Conduct Pre‐Purchase and Insurance inspections on a wide range of vessels
* Inspect hulls, mechanical systems, and onboard equipment
* Perform compression testing on petrol engines
* Experience with all engine types including petrol, diesel, and outboard engines is required
* Produce detailed inspection reports daily using BoatBuy's in‐house software
* Provide honest, unbiased assessments and professional recommendations to clients
* Liaise with boat brokers, owners, and slipways to coordinate inspections
* Communicate directly with customers, including follow‐up inspections where required
* Represent the BoatBuy brand professionally at all times
Contractor Requirements
* Must have your own reliable vehicle suitable for transporting tools
* Must have your own core mechanical and inspection tools
* Willing to hold required contractor insurance (approximately $4,000 per year)
* Willing to commence a Diploma of Marine Surveying (approximately $3,500, at your own cost)
* Diploma of Marine Surveying must be commenced before starting the position
* Comfortable travelling across the Perth metro area for inspections
