Emergency Control Coordinator / Emergency Management & Facilities Support Officer
Location: Canberra. Employment Type: Labour Hire / Contract. Duration: Initial 3 months with potential extension (up to 12 months). Start: ASAP.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable Emergency Control Coordinator to lead and coordinate the Emergency Control Organisation and support compliance with emergency management requirements under relevant WHS legislation and organisational emergency governance frameworks. This role is central to ensuring effective emergency preparedness, response capability, and business continuity across a multi-tenanted workplace environment. In addition, the role contributes to environmental sustainability initiatives and provides support across property, facilities, and accommodation management functions, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable workplace operations.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Management (Core)
* Coordinate the Emergency Planning Committee (EPC), including secretariat duties, agendas, minutes, and reporting.
* Plan, coordinate, and deliver emergency training sessions and evacuation exercises.
* Review, maintain, and update emergency plans, procedures, and documentation.
* Prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers, and compliance documentation.
* Support emergency response activities and business continuity/recovery processes.
* Provide strategic advice on emergency preparedness and risk mitigation.
Environmental Management (Desirable)
* Support coordination of Environmental Management Sub-Committee (EMSC).
* Prepare quarterly performance reports and analysis for governance forums.
* Contribute to Net Zero in Government Operations (NziGO) reporting requirements.
* Support implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives and strategies.
* Assist in development of sustainable accommodation and fit-out solutions.
Property & Facilities Support (Desirable)
* Support management of leasing arrangements in line with relevant property frameworks.
* Assist with facilities coordination, accommodation planning, and building projects.
* Support delivery of workplace fit-outs aligned with sustainability objectives.
* Oversee or support facilities operations and event coordination where required.
* Manage stakeholder relationships across internal and external partners.
About You
You are a highly organised and proactive professional with strong experience in emergency management, governance support, and stakeholder engagement. You are comfortable balancing operational delivery with strategic coordination.
Mandatory
* Demonstrated experience in emergency management and emergency response coordination.
* Strong administrative and secretariat skills.
* Experience supervising staff or coordinating teams.
* Ability to provide strategic advice and prepare high-quality reports and briefs.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Experience in project coordination and quality assurance activities.
* Capability in knowledge transfer and training facilitation.
Highly Desirable
* Experience in property, facilities, or accommodation management.
* Experience in environmental or sustainability programs (including Net Zero initiatives).
Key Deliverables
* Coordination of Emergency Planning Committee (EPC) activities.
* Delivery of emergency training and exercise programs.
* Maintenance of up-to-date emergency management plans and documentation.
* Timely production of governance reports and briefing materials.
* Support for emergency response and business continuity arrangements.
* Environmental reporting (including NziGO submissions).
