About the Role
The Campus Planning & Design Manager leads the planning process for University infrastructure and provides design management through the various approval stages for a variety of projects. The role oversees the end to end planning and design process, including master planning, statutory planning, design development, approvals and design compliance. It includes review and update of the University Design Guidelines on an ongoing basis. Working collaboratively across the Property Unit and with faculties and business units, the position provides expert guidance to ensure high quality, functional, sustainable, accessible and innovative design outcomes that support the University's strategic objectives.
Role responsibilities include:
* Lead campus wide planning and design activities, including the development, refinement and implementation of the University's Campus Master Plan 2040.
* Manage the end to end planning and design process for programs of work and individual projects, from concept through to construction and defects liability.
* Oversee statutory planning and approvals, providing expert advice on planning pathways, legislative requirements and regulatory compliance.
* Provide leadership and oversight of multidisciplinary design consultant teams, ensuring coordinated, high quality design outcomes.
* Review and rigorously assess design documentation to ensure alignment with project briefs, standards and regulatory requirements.
* Procure and manage consultant performance against agreed scope, budget and program.
* Support feasibility reviews, strategic decision making and project governance processes.
* Develop, maintain and apply University design guidelines, standards and planning policies.
* Provide planning and design advice for refurbishments, fit outs, change of use proposals and new developments.
* Build and manage strategic internal and external stakeholder relationships, including with regulatory authorities and local government.
* Monitor external trends and translate insights into planning strategies, design briefs and campus guidelines.
About You

* Strong strategic, statutory and design management experience with the ability to translate priorities into practical outcomes.
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
* Highly developed analytical, problem solving, report writing and decision making capability.
* Demonstrated leadership in design management within complex environments.
* Commitment to sustainability, accessibility, equity, diversity and safe design principles.
* Comprehensive knowledge of statutory planning frameworks, approval processes and design management.
* Strong understanding of campus planning, master planning and public domain design principles.
* Up to date knowledge of contemporary trends in architecture, sustainability, technology, interior and accessible design.
Experience
* Extensive professional experience in planning and design management across complex, concurrent programs of work.
* Significant experience in planning and design management within large, complex organisations.
* Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and external consultants.
* Demonstrated experience leading stakeholder and user engagement processes to capture and interpret requirements for documentation and construction.
* Experience developing planning and design policies, guidelines and approval documentation.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in architecture, planning, design or a related discipline.
What We Offer
Base Salary Range: SSS1plus 17% superannuation (pension)
