The Department is seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to support the delivery and operation of critical gateway, cloud and network services. Working within a specialist team, you will help maintain secure, reliable and modern connectivity across the Department’s cloud and hybrid environments. The role involves implementing and supporting core network capabilities, monitoring infrastructure performance, developing documentation and contributing to technical projects. You will collaborate closely with Architecture and Cyber Security teams to ensure solutions align with departmental standards and security requirements.
Candidates with strong network engineering experience in complex environments are highly desirable.
The key duties of the position include:
* Implement, operate, and support core gateway and network services, including datacentre and cloud connectivity, DNS and domain management, email and web proxy services, and F5 BIG‑IP load balancing and access management.
* Manage and maintain key network capabilities such as ICON, internet gateways, LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, Security Service Edge (SSE) technologies, monitoring and observability tools, and remote access or site‑to‑site VPN solutions.
* Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure to ensure high availability, strong performance, and ongoing compliance with security requirements.
* Develop and maintain accurate technical documentation and contribute to knowledge‑sharing and skills development across the team.
* Participate in network projects from planning through to deployment, ensuring solutions meet technical, security, and operational specifications.
* Work collaboratively with Architecture and Cyber Security teams to ensure solutions follow departmental standards, best practices, and security compliance measures.
* Assess and confirm that services, tools, and implemented solutions are effective, fit for purpose, and support business needs.
* Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, ensuring solutions and decisions are well understood and aligned with business requirements.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health, Disability and Ageing will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
* Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
* Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
* Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), and
* Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.
For this role applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, or hold a current security clearance at an appropriate level.
Desirable experience:
* 7+ years’ experience working in network security or engineering roles in a large enterprise environment, designing and developing complex network solutions (highly desirable).
* Demonstrated experience executing technical roadmaps focused on capability development and operational excellence.
* Demonstrated experience contributing to the operationalisation and documentation of new network services.
* Experience in supporting vendor-delivered services under formal service level agreements (SLAs).
* Proven ability to maintain positive and productive relationships with technical peers, vendors, and service providers.

Employees perform their duties at one of the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DoHDA) offices, in the locations specified in this advertisement. Remote working is possible and is negotiated with your manager on commencement. Flexibility can be negotiated with your manager to balance your personal and professional needs with the needs of your role and business area.
This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended by an additional 12 months (cannot exceed 24 months in total).
