About The Opportunity
Would you like to work with a highly customer focused Cytology team, who provides opportunities for continuing education, collaboration and clinical work? We are your team! We are seeking a dedicated Cytologist (Scientific Officer) to become part of our team at John Hunter Hospital in a temporary, part‑time capacity. At Hunter Cytology, we deliver comprehensive services in gynaecological and non‑gynaecological cytology as well as rapid onsite assessment (ROSE). Applicants must hold CT (ASC) certification to be considered.

What You'll Be Doing
Responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities including the coordination and provisions of scientific and technical training and the ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor Degree or higher in Science/Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution
- Australian Society of Cytology (ASC) Certificate in Nongynaecological Cytology and Gynaecological Cytology
- ThinPrep (Hologic) Certificate
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in pathology services relevant to the laboratory, including Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Office; strong report writing, communication, and data evaluation skills
- Customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a team or autonomously
- Understanding of work health and safety and privacy requirements; knowledge of relevant legislation and policies

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read NSW Health Policy Directive PD2024_015 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases and comply with its requirements.
