Public Sector People are partnering with Hawkesbury City Council to recruit an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, this executive senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, driving best-practice financial management and supporting informed decision-making across Council.
About the Role
As Chief Financial Officer, you will lead Council's financial strategy and operations, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements while enabling long-term financial sustainability. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading all financial management functions including budgeting, financial reporting, audit, procurement, rates and revenue, accounts payable and payroll
* Overseeing Council's long-term financial planning, reserves, investments and loan portfolio
* Providing high-level financial advice and analysis to the Director Corporate Services, General Manager, Executive Senior Leadership Team and Council
* Ensuring compliance with the Local Government Act, regulations, accounting standards and statutory reporting obligations
* Driving continuous improvement in financial systems, reporting and business processes
* Managing Council's Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R) financial inputs and alignment with strategic objectives
* Leading, mentoring and developing the Financial Services Branch
* Undertaking the statutory role of Responsible Accounting Officer
What You'll Bring
You will be a strategic, credible finance leader with strong public sector or complex organisational experience, bringing:
* Tertiary qualifications in finance or accounting and CPA or CA accreditation
* Extensive senior-level experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting and long-term financial planning
* Proven experience advising executives and elected bodies on financial strategy, risk and organisational performance
* Strong knowledge of local government legislation, accounting standards and regulatory requirements
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, practical advice
* Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams
* High integrity, sound judgement and a collaborative leadership style
