Who We Are

Since 2001, Centacare — a Social Services Agency of the Catholic Diocese of Armidale — has been a vital part of the local community. We deliver a broad range of social welfare and wellbeing services that support individuals, families and the wider community. As a Catholic agency, we welcome everyone—regardless of religion, background, situation, age, gender, or ability. Our work is grounded in our core values: Dignity | Solidarity | Subsidiarity | Common Good. These principles guide how we deliver services and support those who need us most.

About the Opportunity

The Family Safety Worker plays a critical role within the Men's Behaviour Change Program (MBCP). Your primary purpose is to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of victim survivors and their children connected to perpetrators participating in the program. Working independently from the men's intervention component, you will provide:

* Comprehensive risk assessment
* Safety planning

* Coordination with specialist domestic and family violence services

This role requires travel across the New England North West region to engage with victim survivors, participate in interagency meetings, and collaborate with partner services.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

* Provide proactive outreach and engagement with victim survivors linked to MBCP participants.
* Conduct initial and ongoing RSSF-aligned risk assessments, including DVSAT where required.
* Develop and review individualised safety plans in partnership with victim survivors.
* Monitor changing risk and respond promptly to escalating concerns.
* Participate in active information exchange under Part 13A of the Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007 (NSW).
* Maintain clear role separation while collaborating with MBCP Facilitators.
* Contribute referrals to Safety Action Meetings and integrated responses where serious threats are identified.
* Make warm referrals to domestic and family violence, legal, housing, health, counselling, and child‐focused services.
* Provide trauma-informed, inclusive and culturally safe support.
* Work inclusively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally and linguistically diverse victim survivors.
* Maintain accurate and timely client records in accordance with RSSF and MBCP Practice Standards.
* Participate in supervision, reflective practice, quality improvement and compliance activities.
* Assist with facilitation of the MBCP Reference Groups and represent Centacare at interagency meetings and community events.
Desired Skills and Experience
* Strong understanding of domestic and family violence dynamics.
* Highly developed skills in risk assessment, crisis response and safety planning.
* Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
* High emotional intelligence with capacity to manage complexity and distress.
* Demonstrated cultural safety and responsiveness.
* Strong ethical decision‐making and professional boundaries.

Key Performance Indicators

* Engagement attempted with 100% of identified victim survivors.
* Minimum of 32 actively engaged victim survivors per year.
* RSSF‐aligned risk assessments completed for 100% of engaged clients.
* Timely information exchange for all cases involving elevated or changing risk.
* Participation in 90% of compliance activities, audits, supervision and reference groups.

What You Bring

* Tertiary qualifications or significant experience in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, or related field.
* Demonstrated professional experience in domestic and family violence, women's safety or family support services.
* Proven experience in risk assessment, safety planning and crisis intervention.
* Knowledge and experience using DVSAT and domestic violence risk assessment frameworks (e.g., RSSF).
* High-level communication skills and capacity to work with sensitive, complex situations.
