With continued growth across Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand, we are looking for a commercially minded finance professional to strengthen our finance operations, reporting, controls and team capability.
This role could suit either an ambitious Senior Accountant ready to step up, or an experienced finance professional already operating at Finance Manager level. The final scope, salary and pathway will reflect your experience, capability and fit with Hanlon.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will act as a key review, coordination and support point across finance operations, reporting, compliance and controls.
You will work within a finance function of approximately eight people across accounting, reporting, payroll, AP and AR — directly leading the Bookkeeper and Payroll Officer, while partnering closely with the Head of Finance and the broader team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead two direct reports (Bookkeeper and Payroll Officer), supporting their development and day-to-day performance
* Review month-end close, reconciliations and reporting outputs for accuracy, completeness and readiness for Head of Finance sign-off
* Coordinate monthly and consolidated reporting across multiple entities, including our New Zealand trading entity
* Support the preparation of executive and Board reporting packs
* Strengthen internal controls, governance and finance procedures
* Support BAS, payroll tax, WorkCover, audit, tax and statutory reporting requirements
* Provide senior-level support across accounting, payroll and compliance matters when needed
* Drive improvements across reporting workflows and process documentation in Xero, Workbench Central ERP, Sharperlight and Syft
* Use AI-enabled tools, including Claude AI, to support smarter reporting, analysis and automation
* Deliver clear financial insights to the Head of Finance and senior stakeholders
About You
You are a practical, commercially aware finance professional who enjoys being close to the business. You are adaptable, hands-on and comfortable working in a growing environment where priorities can shift and opportunities arise quickly.

You'll Bring
* CPA or CA qualification, or working towards it
* 5+ years' experience in accounting, finance operations or a similar role
* Strong month-end, reporting and reconciliation capability
* Exposure to payroll, AP and AR with the ability to handle higher-level review and queries
* Understanding of compliance requirements: BAS, payroll tax, WorkCover, audit, tax or statutory reporting
* Confidence leading people, or clear readiness to step into that responsibility
* Strong Excel, systems and analytical skills
* Good stakeholder engagement and a high standard of personal accountability
* Curiosity and openness toward AI, automation and modern finance tools
* Construction, manufacturing or project-based industry experience preferred, but not essential
