Primary objective

Responsible for the efficient and economic daily operational requirements and delivery of the school nutrition program through

the school Canteen. This includes the preparation of meals for all students in line with the NT Healthy Eating Policy, managing and

mentoring a team of local staff and collaborating with school leadership and school council on projects and initiatives where

appropriate.

Context statement

Maningrida is a remote Indigenous community located on the coast in Arnhem Land approximately 560kms from Darwin.

Maningrida College provides education to approximately 620 students from Preschool to Year 12 with daily attendance numbers

fluctuating throughout the year but averaging at 35%. Maningrida College Canteen operates the school nutrition program, providing

meals to all enrolled students from Preschool to Year 12, 5 days a week. The School Nutrition Program is funded by the NIAA

(National Indigenous Australians Agency), parental contributions and school funds. The Canteen's operations are guided by the NT

School Nutrition and Healthy Eating Policy, and menu is designed by the Canteen Manager, with the guidance of the school council

and Principal.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Planning, organising and monitoring day-to-day operations, including preparation of breakfast, recess and lunch meals in line

with NT School Nutrition and Healthy Eating Policy and ACECQA standards, including the provision of limited counter service

2. Managing, mentoring and capacity building a team of local employees while ensuring a pleasant and safe working environment

and service to staff, students and families

3. Ordering, purchasing, receiving deliveries, management of daily takings, pricing reviews, stocktake and submission of monthly

report on sales and profitability

4. Ensuring that correct food and hygiene practices are observed by all persons working or volunteering

5. Working in collaboration with school leadership, school council and the community to plan for and support events, excursions

and initiatives

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience in food preparation, hospitality or commercial kitchens including strong knowledge of food safety standards and

ability to provide meals for large numbers

2. Strong organisational and time management skills including ability to adapt to changes and maintain team morale if short periods

of pressure arise

3. Ability to supervise, mentor and capacity build staff, promoting a positive work environment and strong working relationships

4. Proven ability to develop constructive and respectful relationships with staff, school-aged children and other community stake

holders, including people from diverse backgrounds or with English as an additional language

5. Ability to manage inventory and procurement and budgets based on operational and project needs
