Cairns Taxis is Far North Queensland's leading taxi network, servicing the region's tourism, local community, corporate and government transport needs 24/7. We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Fleet Services Manager to lead the compliance, performance and professional standards of our taxi fleet and drivers.
This is a hands-on leadership role at the heart of a regulated transport business, working closely with drivers, Transport and Main Roads (TMR), the Call Centre, and senior management to ensure Cairns Taxis operates safely, compliantly and profitably and forms part of our executive leadership team.
About the Role
As Fleet Services Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of our active taxi fleet and driver base. You will oversee compliance, vehicle and driver standards, inspections, onboarding, performance management and disciplinary processes, while also driving fleet optimisation, utilisation and growth.
This role requires a confident, fair and commercially minded leader who can balance regulatory requirements with strong people engagement and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Compliance Management
* Ensure all vehicles and drivers meet TMR, Queensland Transport and industry regulatory requirements
* Manage all vehicle inspections, defect reporting, audits and compliance checks and uphold Cairns Taxis values and standards
* Act as the primary liaison with TMR and other regulatory bodies
* Maintain accurate records of licences, accreditations, vehicle registrations and insurances
* Oversee compliance investigations, breach notices, complaints and corrective actions
Driver Management & Performance
* Lead driver recruitment, onboarding, inductions and accreditation processes
* Manage driver conduct, complaints, investigations and disciplinary actions
* Enforce company policies, Code of Conduct and service standards
* Support drivers to improve compliance, safety and service performance
* Work closely with the Call Centre and Management to resolve driver and customer issues
Fleet Optimisation & Commercial Performance
* Monitor fleet utilisation, vehicle downtime and driver performance
* Identify underperforming vehicles and drivers and implement improvement plans
* Support fleet growth through recruitment and retention strategies
* Work with management on network/dispatch optimisation, capacity planning and revenue growth for drivers and operators
Driver Recruitment & Retention
* Lead recruitment of new drivers and operators
* Manage background checks, medicals, inductions and onboarding
* Build a strong, professional and service-focused driver base
* Lead the drivers forum
Stakeholder & Internal Collaboration
* Work closely with the Call Centre, Operations, Compliance and Finance/Admin teams
* Support investigations, audits and regulatory reporting, including camera downloads
* Represent Cairns Taxis professionally with regulators, drivers and other stakeholders
About You
You are a strong operational leader who thrives in regulated, fast-moving environments and is confident managing both people and compliance.
You will ideally bring:
* Experience in fleet, transport, logistics, compliance, or regulated operations
* Strong knowledge of compliance, audits, investigations and disciplinary processes
* Experience working with government or regulatory bodies (TMR highly regarded)
* Confidence dealing with drivers, contractors and stakeholders
* High attention to detail and excellent record-keeping
* Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
* A commercially focused mindset — balancing service, compliance and profitability
Taxi, transport, or regulated industry experience is highly desirable, but not essential for the right candidate.
