Location: Ararat. Work type: Full-time. Category: Technical. Location requirement: Reside in an area classified as MM2–MM7 under the Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2023. Full-time and fixed-term until December 2026. HEW 5 $83,407 - $93,548 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time).

About the role

The Technical Officer plays a vital role in supporting the academic teaching and research activities within the School of Medicine by delivering high-quality technical and operational services. Working collaboratively with the broader Technical Team, the position ensures safe and compliant practices in areas such as biological and chemical management, inventory control, and waste disposal. This is an on-site position due to the hands-on and practical nature of the role.

Responsibilities

- Provide technical expertise for the School's teaching programs. Complete set up and pack down of practical classes and examinations, including preparation and maintenance of human and animal specimens, simulation mannequins and models, clinical equipment, molecular biology materials.

- Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical classes, clarifying expectations and responding promptly to resolve technical problems, issues, and requirements to ensure client needs are met to agreed standards and timelines.

- Understand local processes, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks, and identify key issues.

- Recognise the importance of teamwork and effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within the immediate team and diverse stakeholders in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others.

- Support operations on site during assessment periods and other critical activities related to the teaching of the MD program.

Qualifications and experience

- Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or

- Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or

- Completion of a Post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a Technician; or

- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

- Experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally within a tertiary education environment.

- Good knowledge of OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards.
