Horizon West Bus and Coachlines is seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Diesel, Auto-Electrical and/or Auto-Air-Conditioning Technician to join our workshop team.
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for performing safe, timely, and cost-effective repair and maintenance on our diverse fleet of vehicles, including diesel, electrical, and air-conditioning systems. You will work closely with the Workshop Manager and Senior Trades personnel to optimise the operational efficiency of our vehicles.
Key Responsibilities Repair & Maintenance (Approx. 80% Time Allocation)
* General Maintenance:
o Perform routine A, B, and C servicing on all vehicle types.
o Conduct Road Safety Inspections to ensure vehicle compliance ahead of HVAIS inspections.
o Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, and air-conditioning systems.
o Lead breakdown repairs and vehicle recoveries to minimize downtime.
o Conduct daily fleet checks to assess vehicle condition and identify potential maintenance needs.
o Provide preventative maintenance recommendations to improve vehicle reliability.
* Diesel Fitting:
o Disassemble, repair, and replace critical components like engines, transmissions, and steering mechanisms.
o Conduct system diagnostics and repair or replace defective parts using specialized tools and equipment.
* Auto-Electrical:
o Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including lighting, alternators, and starter motors.
o Calibrate and repair electronic components such as sensors, ECUs, and dashboard displays.
o Inspect and address potential issues in electrical systems to prevent failures.
* Air-Conditioning:
o Perform repairs and replacements of air-conditioning components, including compressors and evaporators.
o Conduct gas recharging services, adhering to environmental regulations.
o Ensure optimal performance of air-conditioning systems through inspection and cleaning.
Administration & Communication (Approx. 10% Time Allocation)
* Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement of parts and services.
* Accurately record maintenance and repair work for tracking and vehicle service history.
* Communicate effectively with Operations to coordinate vehicle availability and inform of out-of-service vehicles.
Apprentice Mentorship (Approx. 10% Time Allocation)
* Provide guidance and support to apprentices, helping them develop their technical skills in diesel, electrical, and air-conditioning systems.
* Demonstrate and reinforce safe work practices, ensuring apprentices comply with workplace health and safety policies.
* Regularly review apprentice progress and provide feedback to the Workshop Manager.
Skills & Experience Required Qualifications:
* Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical or equivalent.
* Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent.
* Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology or equivalent.
* Valid Heavy Rigid Western Australian driver's license.
Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in diesel fitting, auto-electrical, or vehicle air-conditioning systems.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Strong mentoring and interpersonal skills.
* Intermediate data entry skills and computer literacy.
* Commitment to staying current with technical advancements in diesel, electrical, and air-conditioning systems.
