Role OverviewThe Telecommunications Network Planner will be responsible for the strategic planning, design, development, and optimisation of telecommunications network infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the delivery of reliable, compliant, and future-ready communication services.
The position requires strong technical expertise across RF, transmission, and integrated IT environments, combined with operational leadership and stakeholder management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, design, and develop customer access telecommunications network infrastructure in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Conduct network capacity planning, traffic analysis, and performance modelling to support network growth and service reliability.
* Install, maintain, repair, and diagnose faults in microwave, telemetry, multiplexing, satellite, and other radio and electromagnetic communication systems.
* Perform signal testing, interference analysis, and system optimisation to maximise network efficiency.
* Configure, deploy, and integrate telecommunications technologies with enterprise IT systems, including servers, databases, operating systems, hardware platforms, and peripheral devices.
* Provide technical advisory support to SAED (Site Acquisition, Environmental, and Design) teams and wireless build teams throughout project lifecycles.
* Support infrastructure rollout, upgrade, and modernisation initiatives.
Design and implement network optimisation strategies to improve coverage, capacity, and service quality.
* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex network performance, connectivity, and reliability issues.
* Develop and maintain detailed equipment inventories, asset registers, configuration records, and technical documentation.
* Ensure compliance with organisational policies, Australian telecommunications regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance frameworks.
* Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
* Liaise with vendors, suppliers, contractors, and service providers to manage technical deliverables and service performance.
* Monitor supplier compliance with contractual obligations, service-level agreements, and quality benchmarks.
* Provide advanced technical guidance and operational support to field technicians and installation teams.
* Promote industry best practices, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across network operations.
Skills and Competencies
* Strong expertise in telecommunications network planning, design, and optimisation.
* In-depth knowledge of RF, microwave, satellite, telemetry, and transmission systems.
* Proven capability in integrating telecommunications platforms with IT infrastructure.
* Advanced fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and performance analysis skills.
* High-level technical documentation, reporting, and asset management capability.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills.
* Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience in telecommunications network planning, deployment, and operations.
* Sound knowledge of Australian telecommunications regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
* Relevant industry certifications (e.g., vendor, RF, or networking certifications) are desirable but not mandatory.
* Valid Australian work rights.
