About the Role
We're seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Open Pit Geologist to join our team at Mungari. This role is ideal for a geology professional who thrives in a fast-paced open pit mining environment and is ready to lead technical excellence and team performance. Reporting to the Superintendent – Mine Geology, the Senior Open Pit Geologist is responsible for providing technical leadership across all geological tasks related to mine production, grade control, and resource development. You will supervise a team of geologists and technicians, ensuring accurate geological modeling, effective reconciliation, and optimal drill programs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and supervise geological operations and contractor activities to meet production and cost targets.
2. Perform QAQC analysis and integrate geological, structural, and analytical data into grade control and resource models.
3. Collaborate with the Resource Geology team to prepare, maintain and refine geological models.
4. Manage stockpile tracking and oversee end-of-month reconciliation processes.
5. Contribute to short-term forecasting and budgeting for the Geology department.
6. Promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement.
7. Support team development through training and mentoring.
8. Act as delegate for the Superintendent – Mine Geology and other geology roles when required.
About You
You are a driven and experienced geologist with a passion for operational excellence and team leadership in open pit mining. You thrive in dynamic environments and bring a proactive approach to problem-solving, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You hold a tertiary qualification in Geology (Honours preferred), with postgraduate studies and professional memberships (AusIMM, AIG) highly regarded. You have over 6 years of industry experience in mine geology and grade control, with a solid understanding of geological interpretation, 3D modelling and estimation, QAQC protocols, and reconciliation processes.
