MJ Engineering Projects is a specialist remedial engineering consultancy based in Sydney. For over 18 years we have worked with strata managers, owners corporations, government, commercial asset owners, insurers and lawyers to investigate building defects, design practical rectification solutions and manage remedial works.
The Opportunity
As a Remedial Engineer / Senior Remedial Engineer you will take the lead on investigations and delivery of remedial projects from initial inspection through to completion of works. You will work closely with other senior engineers and our clients to deliver clear, practical and compliant outcomes on live, occupied buildings.
This role will suit someone who enjoys a mix of technical work, site work and client interaction, and who is comfortable managing projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead building investigations, defect diagnosis and condition assessments for existing buildings
* Plan and undertake intrusive investigations, testing and monitoring as required
* Develop remedial strategies and prepare engineering documentation including reports, regulated designs, technical specifications and drawings
* Administer remedial contracts, including superintendent duties, RFIs, variations, site instructions and progress claims
* Carry out regular site inspections, hold point inspections and defect inspections, and provide clear written records and recommendations
* Liaise with strata managers, owners corporations, lawyers, insurers, builders and specialist contractors
* Draft expert reports and technical opinions for insurers, lawyers and tribunals on building defects and remedial solutions
* Ensure designs and advice comply with the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW) (DBPA), National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards
* Contribute to internal technical standards, templates and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline)
* Minimum 2.5+ years experience in remedial engineering, structural engineering, building consulting or a closely related field
* Experience investigating and developing practical solutions for defects in façades, waterproofing systems, concrete elements and structural components of existing buildings
* Excellent report writing skills and the ability to explain complex issues in plain language
* Experience administering remedial works contracts and dealing with contractors on occupied sites
* Familiarity with NSW regulatory frameworks including the DBPA, NCC and relevant Australian Standards
* Experience with, or interest in, expert witness and insurance / dispute related work
* Current or interested in registration as a Design Practitioner (Structural or Façade) and / or NER is highly regarded
* Current driver licence and willingness to travel to sites across Greater Sydney and occasionally regional NSW
