Are you seeking a career offering security, flexibility, and development opportunities?

The Northern Territory Department of Corrections (DoC) plays a vital role in the community and criminal justice system, aiming to improve outcomes for prisoners and the community.

As a Trainee Correctional Officer, you will undertake an eight-week off-the-job training course, followed by three weeks of on-the-job training, equipping you with skills to support safety and security within correctional centres.

*Salary breakdown during training:

* First 8-week block: $62,167 plus 11.5% superannuation ($69,316 total)
* Weeks 9-11 (shadowing): $97,043 total, including salary, allowance, and superannuation
* Post 11-week training: $107,825 total, including salary, allowance, and superannuation

During the 12-month training, you will complete a nationally accredited qualification (CSC30122 Certificate III in Correctional Practice), with all costs covered by DoC. Successful completion may lead to ongoing employment.

Key duties include supervising prisoners, employing security measures, escorts, and emergency responses. Eligibility for ongoing employment requires Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency, and a good character, communication, fitness, and cross-cultural skills.

Prerequisites include a current First Aid Certificate and a Northern Territory "C" class driver's license with manual driving ability.

Benefits include competitive salary, leave entitlements, flexible work conditions, uniforms, wellness allowance, paid overtime, and additional leave for Sunday work. An attraction and retention allowance of $10,000 is paid in installments, with ongoing retention allowances.

This role offers a lifestyle with great weather, landscapes, and community spirit. The NTPS values diversity; Aboriginal applicants are prioritized under the Special Measures Plan, but all diversity groups are encouraged to apply. For more details, visit NT Government Careers.

Training is delivered under the Northern Territory Correctional Services RTO Number 1074, following the Australian Quality Framework.
