Then look no further We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Microbiology laboratory team in a full-time permanent position at NSW Health Pathology, Orange Hospital.
Just 3.5 hrs away from Sydney (and less than an hour by air), Orange is a thriving cool-climate town in Central West NSW famed for its award winning restaurants, natural beauty and wineries. In addition to several daily flights to and from Sydney, there are direct flights to Melbourne and Brisbane from Orange Regional Airport several times a week. Orange hosts several high quality educational facilities for all ages from primary school through to TAFE and University. Orange Hospital is one of the largest regional hospitals in NSW, is affiliated with University of Sydney and also hosts students from Charles Sturt University, University of Newcastle and University of Wollongong.
The NSW Health Pathology Service at Orange is a Category GY service located within Orange Hospital's Bloomfield campus. The laboratory works directly with the Category GX laboratories at Nepean and Westmead Hospitals and also works closely with other NSW Health Pathology services in the region.

What you'll be doing
Responsible for delivering a range of operational laboratory activities including the coordination and provisions of scientific and technical training and the ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with operational standards and procedures, quality standards and continual process improvement. Hospital Scientists perform a wide range of Microbiology scientific tasks to deliver a patient-focused high-quality Pathology service. Duties include computer data entry, processing infectious human pathology specimens, performing specimen cell counts and stained microscopy, culture plate reading and molecular tests, kit-based and automated identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing processes, performing and documenting quality control, safe operation of laboratory equipment, performing routine equipment maintenance, and customer service tasks.

* Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services relevant to the laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite
* Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
* Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory
* Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
* Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
* Demonstrated recent experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory, including competent specimen processing, microscopy, culture analysis and interpretation, organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, use of automated identification and susceptibility systems, use of nucleic acid detection platforms, and accurate reporting of microbiology results.
