We're looking for a Mechatronics Support Engineer to help keep our animatronic creatures performing safely and reliably around the world. You'll combine mechanical engineering depth with hands‐on controls and PLC troubleshooting to solve complex technical challenges.
A little about the role...
As part of our Service & Support team, you'll provide mechanical and controls engineering support across new and existing animatronic installations delivered by Creature Technology. Your work ensures that the creatures we build continue to move, perform, and captivate audiences safely and reliably, long after they leave our workshop.
This role sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, automation, and applied problem‐solving. You'll investigate faults, select and design components, work with PLC systems, and produce documentation that supports both internal teams and global clients. You'll also travel to site when needed to support commissioning, testing, or high‐priority issues.
Success here depends on strong communication and the ability to work across disciplines: collaborating not just with engineers, but also with creative and design teams, and engineering fabricators. If you enjoy getting to the root of a problem and delivering practical, robust solutions, this role will suit you well.
You could be the one if you...
* Hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
* Have experience in mechanical or mechatronic engineering roles with exposure to design, analysis, and system troubleshooting.
* Are proficient with SolidWorks for modelling and drafting.
* Have working experience with PLC platforms (Beckhoff and/or Allen Bradley) and motion control systems (servo, hydraulic, electric).
* Are a clear communicator who can explain technical issues to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
* Enjoy structured problem‐solving and getting to the root cause of complex issues.
* Are comfortable working across disciplines, collaborating with creative teams, designers, fabricators, and engineers.
Nice to Have
* Experience working on unique, one‐off machines, automation equipment, or safety‐critical systems.
* Field support, commissioning, or client‐facing technical experience.
* Familiarity with safety documentation and compliance standards relevant to mechatronic systems.
What you'll do
* Design and select mechanical and mechatronic components for service projects, ensuring compatibility, safety, and reliability.
* Create and maintain SolidWorks models, assemblies, and technical drawings to support modifications, upgrades, and system improvements.
* Perform engineering calculations (structural loads, heat transfer, tolerances) to validate concepts and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
* Configure, troubleshoot, and debug PLC systems (Beckhoff and Allen Bradley) to resolve control and automation faults.
* Support motion control systems, including electric, hydraulic, and servo technologies, diagnosing performance issues and recommending corrective actions.
* Provide remote technical support to clients, diagnosing issues using structured problem‐solving and guiding safe corrective actions.
* Attend site when required to resolve high‐priority issues, support commissioning, or complete testing prior to equipment shipment.
* Investigate failures and conduct root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and recommend improvements.
* Author technical documents, service bulletins, and fault‐finding guides for internal teams and clients.
* Manage and update product data management records, ensuring accurate version control and traceability of engineering changes.
* Collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, creative teams, and technicians to share knowledge and improve cross‐functional workflows.
