Key Responsibilities:
* Work collaboratively with a team to collect samples and data from Queensland's fisheries, adhering to established protocols.
* Process fish samples, including measuring length, determining sex, removing otoliths, and collecting tissue samples for genetic analysis.
* Prepare otoliths for further examination, involving blocking in resin, sectioning using high or low-speed saws, and mounting sections onto glass slides.
* Estimate the age of fish by reading whole or sectioned otoliths.
* Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding sampling activities.
* Ensure high levels of scientific accuracy during sample and data collection, maintaining integrity and respecting sensitivities related to commercial, recreational, charter, and indigenous fishing practices.
