About The Role
The Test Analyst resides in the IT Service and Quality Management team within Information Technology and reports to the Testing and Quality Manager under broad direction. The primary objective of the position is to ensure the effective strategies are in place for delivering the expected business and technology outcomes for technology change resulting from project and BAU activities at Swinburne. The Swinburne IT environment is diverse and work takes place in a variety of ways, so testers should expect to be required to be flexible with approaches to planning and delivering testing. They should also expect to learn about and define test approaches for a variety of bespoke systems, integration and off-the-shelf products and systems. The critical requirements for the role are critical and strategic thinking, analytical skills (working with requirements models and producing effective test coverage), team and project-level influencing as well as leadership and communication (with a strong emphasis on writing skill).
Testing is a broad discipline, and it is expected testers will not necessarily bring all of the desired skills. They will, however, bring different strengths and a mix of the required skills and an ability to learn new skills on the job. All testers must demonstrate the core capabilities of test strategy definition, definition of effective coverage and an ability to work with teams and technology to deliver that coverage. Testers will be able to ensure that the right testing is done, leaning into their individual strengths and leveraging the skills of others involved in the project to build a complete approach. The role is expected to work collaboratively with project and application team members and stakeholders as well as vendors and system integrators to deliver effective, safe technology change for Swinburne.
You will play a key role in delivering a high-impact finance modernisation project for the University. This is a unique opportunity to help uplift our finance capabilities by implementing modern, scalable, and resilient solutions that seamlessly integrate with a range of enterprise platforms.
This is a fixed term contract until 3 July 2026.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will ideally be able to address the following:
* Demonstrated software testing experience in a variety of environments requiring flexibility of approach. Describe the factors that lead to different approaches (eg. People. Architecture, domain, technology).
* Experience working with non-testers (eg. Business users, developers, support teams) to deliver testing, facilitating and/or coordinating testing and test design for small to medium teams or projects.
* Experience applying a variety of test strategies and techniques (eg. Exploratory test management, tool-assisted, code-driven, delegation/coaching, statistical/heuristic) and applying these to different aspects of testing (eg. Functional, performance, usability, accessibility, analysis, reporting, design).
* Experience with different approaches to test documentation and knowledge management to support software development teams.
* Ability to form and articulate a clear approach when faced with uncertainty.
* Demonstrable customer focus bias with examples of delivering improvements to quality-related outcomes at the team level (or broader), directly and through influencing others.
* Experience with finance ERP systems will also be advantageous given the focus of this project but is not essential.
