Are you an innovative, culturally responsive teacher who works best as part of a dynamic team? Are you passionate about improving equity of outcomes for EALD students across Western Australia? We are seeking to establish a pool of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. The Role The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) serves students across Western Australia and is responsive to the needs of EALD learners across a diverse range of contexts. Working at SIDE provides unique and innovative opportunities to strengthen equity and outcomes for EALD students across the state. The SIDE EALD Outreach Program provides intensive English language support for recently arrived regional primary and secondary students who are unable to access metropolitan Intensive English Centres (IEC). The classes are designed to support recently arrived EALD students in the Beginning or Emerging phases of acquiring Standard Australian English and are intended to complement school-based EALD support across Learning Areas. All Foundation, General and ATAR EALD courses for senior secondary CALD and Aboriginal EALD students are offered by SIDE. We are seeking highly skilled and enthusiastic primary and secondary teachers with the capacity to develop and deliver rigorous and engaging EALD blended learning programs suited to the online distance education context. This includes online teaching and occasional visits to the students and schools. Applicants will ideally contribute to the development and delivery of inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive teaching programs, and be required to work closely with staff in partner schools, students, families, local communities, SIDE staff and other stakeholders. Your role would include providing advice and guidance to school leaders and teachers at regional schools regarding goal setting, pathway planning and making consistent judgements with the EALD Progress Map. To be suitable for this role, you will ideally have a relevant EALD qualification and recent classroom experience in an EALD setting. High level communication skills and a demonstrated ability to build mutually respectful, collaborative relationships with students, their parents and teachers are foundational skills required for this role. SIDE has a dedicated training and support program for staff who join our school. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work. Teachers at SIDE participate in our regional travel program to meet the needs of students and partner schools. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations. SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School and Northlake Senior Campus. Teachers based in the metropolitan area may be required to work at any current or future metropolitan venues. SIDE also has teaching facilities at Eaton Community College to accommodate teachers living in the Southwest. Flexible Work Opportunities SIDE offers the opportunity for some teachers to enter into flexible home-based working arrangements to deliver education online to students across the state.
