In this newly created role, representing BHP's senior distinguished AI engineering position, you will be responsible for driving technical excellence, innovation, and strategy in artificial intelligence and machine learning. You will guide and mentor AI engineers and data scientists across the company and collaborate across teams, projects, and leadership to align AI with business goals.
As the Practice Lead AI Excellence, you will be accountable for:
Defining technical excellence for BHP's AI capabilities, including model optimization, production at scale, strategic AI integration, and ensuring business use is fair, unbiased, and ethically responsible. Outlining minimum requirements for AI to maximize value, meet external commitments, and manage material risks. Monitoring AI excellence, providing assurance over risks and strategic objectives, and offering recommendations to improve performance. Maintaining an external network of AI expertise to share best practices, lessons learned, and respond to technical advice requests. Advising Assets and Functions on data sciences and machine learning applications. Location options include Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Santiago, or other BHP office locations.
About You You have extensive experience as a Senior AI Engineer or Data Scientist, with strong knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, GenAI, and computer vision technologies.
You are a systems thinker, enjoy solving complex challenges through data, and can translate insights into actions for sustainable outcomes.
You thrive in fast-paced environments, are eager to learn new technologies, and possess strong communication skills to influence peers and leaders.
A tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent is required.
