Overview
School Learning Support Officers provide support for children with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition, School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for children in the following streams or settings: preschool, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual.
Responsibilities
* Work effectively as part of a team to support the implementation of classroom learning strategies.
* Provide specific support to children with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
* Support student welfare, health and wellbeing activities.
* Apply medication administration protocols and health support training as required.
* Assist teachers in delivering educational outcomes for students with diverse learning needs.
Essential Requirements
* Working towards or hold an Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved Certificate III in Children's Services or Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
* Working with Children Check Clearance.
* Completion of mandatory Department of Education training and willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the role.
* Training to administer medications and health support as required, based on child's needs.
* Commitment to child safe practices and commitment to protecting and promoting the safety, wellbeing and rights of all children.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Awareness of the needs of young children and ability to work with young children.
* Ability to work with children with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
