Senior Transmission Engineer
Grade: 9/10
Salary range: $129,464 - $142,665 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: Full-time until 30th June 2027
Location: Hybrid with an in-office requirement on Tuesday and Thursday in Sydney, McKell. WFH Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies

The NSW Telco Authority is looking for a Senior Transmission Engineer to join their team. This role will be responsible for designing and managing the development of telecommunications radio site infrastructure providing transmission and backhaul expertise.
About the team
This role sits within the Digital, Technology & Innovation (DT&I) Division in the Engineering (Transmission) team in the NSW Telco Authority.
The team is responsible for designing, delivering, and supporting the transmission and backhaul capabilities that underpin the Public Safety Network and other critical government communications.
Your responsibilities will include
* Supporting the design and development of secure, flexible, and extensible Ethernet Microwave mobile backhaul and end to end IP networks for current and future services.
* Maintaining and communicate network policies, design standards, performance specifications, and deployment guidelines, ensuring project compliance and integration.
* Building and sustain strong professional networks, leading engagement and partnership opportunities with industry, government, and key stakeholders to optimise outcomes.
* Identifying emerging issues, risks, and opportunities, providing timely and authoritative advice to senior engineering leaders to support informed decision making.
* Contributing to the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of backhaul strategies and guidelines, ensuring alignment with customer needs and whole of government objectives.

To be successful in this role you will have
* Essential Security Clearance: You will be able to obtain and retain minimum Baseline Security clearance within six months to work with sensitive government and critical communications information
* Relevant Qualifications & Experience: You hold relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, supported by specialist industry experience in telecommunications and network engineering.
* Advanced Microwave & Ethernet Expertise: You have strong capability in Ethernet Microwave planning, design, and architecture, with practical experience in microwave deployment and troubleshooting.
* Networking Technology Proficiency: You bring deep technical knowledge across Ethernet, Metro Ethernet, OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLSTE, and MPLS Layer 2/3 VPNs.
* Planning & WAN Tool Capability: You are proficient with microwave design tools such as PathLoss or Mentum Ellipse and bring experience with WAN technologies including SDH, Ethernet over SDH, and DWDM.
* End to End Telecommunications Delivery Knowledge: You understand Ethernet OAM (CFM, ITUT Y.1731), SAED processes, ACMA and EME compliance, and have experience configuring, installing, commissioning, and integrating telecommunications equipment.
Desirable experience:
* Public Safety & Mission Critical Systems Exposure: Experience with P25, Public Safety networks, Push‑to‑Talk, or mission‑critical communications is highly desirable.
* Additional Telecommunications Knowledge: Exposure to LTE, 5G, LANES, fixed wireless broadband, or IoT is considered an advantage.
