The role
As an Analyst/Lawyer you will be accountable for:
1. Undertaking risk-based supervision (e.g., review, and monitoring) across the sector to ensure adherence with the law.
2. Participating in thematic reviews of harms or problems across the sector and working as part of a team to develop appropriate solutions to regulatory issues.
3. Identifying new ways to utilise data to deliver priorities, including the effective collection, management, analysis, and communication of insights from data.
4. Supporting the implementation of policy and law reform, including developing new guidance, training, systems, and processes as required.
5. Assisting with the identification and implementation of effective regulatory strategies and interventions.
6. Identifying potential areas for law reform and assisting in the law reform projects.
7. Considering applications for relief from the legislation administered by ASIC, reviewing the submissions from the applicant (and third parties, as appropriate), considering existing policy and precedents, making a sound recommendation showing regulatory judgment and then preparing the relevant legal instrument to give effect to the relief decision.
8. Conducting assessments of products and services, and risks across the sector.
9. Coordinating the effective collection of information and data, analysing a range of qualitative and quantitative data.
10. Maintaining knowledge of ASIC's regulatory framework and toolkit, relevant legislative and reporting requirements, domestic and international developments, and best industry practice models.
11. Contributing to and writing reports, presentations and briefings for senior management and external stakeholders
12. Supporting and participating in the planning and delivery of meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
13. Delivering high quality advice on key issues and preparing clear and concise reports and discussion papers, including submissions to Commission, and written correspondence with external stakeholders, including government and industry bodies.
14. Working collaboratively with other teams within ASIC to enable them to carry out their roles, especially the carrying out of enforcement and compliance action.
15. Collaborating and managing (as required) with RR&I on sector specific law reform projects.
About you
16. Relevant tertiary qualification.
17. Experience in advising on complex transactions or projects requiring critical thinking and judgment gained working in the relevant industry, legal firm, or a regulatory environment.
18. Detailed knowledge of, or the ability to readily acquire knowledge of the sector, legislative requirements and the key issues influencing the sector.
19. Demonstrated strong understanding of ASIC's regulatory environment.
20. Demonstrated experience analysing quantitative and qualitative data.
21. Experience presenting information to different audiences through strong writing and verbal communication skills.
22. An understanding of the benefits in developing strategic relationships.
23. Conceptual, analytical, research and problem-solving skills as well as drawing reasoned influences from qualitative and quantitative data and to reach robust and practical conclusions.
24. Experience assessing, verifying and challenging complex information, and making sound regulatory judgements.
25. Ability to understand priorities and adjust work schedule to meet deadlines and ensure the delivery of effective and timely outcomes.
26. Strong writing and editing skills including the ability to distil key messages.
27. Confidence engaging with others, participating in difficult and challenging discussions, and asking probing questions.
28. Ability to work through challenging, ambiguous, and complex issues calmly and logically.
