Through using multi-agent agentic systems that empower business customers to focus on what matters most: meaningful, value-enhancing customer interactions.In this roleAs an established Principal Engineer, you will be building features that are data-driven and customer-centric, fostering that culture within the Group.Here, you will be working alongside CommBank's global engineering community in better utilising AI assisted tools and capabilities that builds our business banking functionality.
With your Product Engineer mindset, you will be experimenting and training our engineers ensuring the best use of the emerging AI technologies as well as a more positive and productive environment.Key responsibilities also include but not limited to:Constantly solving the largest and most complex challenges in the team, from technical design to productionRapidly experimenting with emerging AI assisted engineering tools, and partnering effectively with engineering squads across the Group to support real-world testing and analysisConsistently defining architectural standards whilst tackling complex architecture issuesTranslating requirements into solid engineering deliverables whilst delegating work to squad membersDelivering key solutions that are used by other teams and productsActively contributing to the code delivery through leading code reviews & documentation, direct contribution and fixing complex bugsCoaching and mentoring junior members in the team hiring great engineers and developing their careerWe are interested in hearing from people who have:Demonstrable knowledge and experience of AI/ML Engineering and their application in accelerating the product development lifecycleA proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale, complex engineering initiativesCommercial or side project experience in one or more of the following technologies or related technologies: Anthropic Claude, Llama, LiteLLM, Cursor, windsurf / Codeium, VO Vercel, Continue, Aider, Cline, Langchain, Langgraph, Hugging FaceDeep knowledge of architectural patterns, cloud-native solutions on AWS & Azure, microservices architecture, solutions integration and containerisationStrong mentoring and leadership skills, with a passion for upskilling engineers and fostering a culture of innovationThe ability to influence cross-functional teams, articulate trade-offs, and align technical decisions with business objectivesDemonstrated ability to evaluate emerging AI tools and integrate them into engineering workflowsProficiency in agile development methodologies and iterative experimentation from idea to prototype to pilot to productExpertise in full cycle engineering using modern DevSecOps practices, IaC, AWS Sagemaker, AWS Bedrock and CI/CD toolsWorking with us:Whether you're passionate about customer service, driven by data, or called by creativity, a career here is for you.
