We are seeking an experienced SAP S/4HANA Architect to join a major retail organisation undertaking a large-scale SAP upgrade, migration and integration program. This is a senior architecture role working from the technology side of the business, suited to someone who can operate confidently across both the technical and functional dimensions of SAP. The ideal person will bring a strong technical architecture background, combined with enough functional understanding to engage properly with business stakeholders, delivery teams, vendors and senior leaders. This is not a pure functional consulting role. It is not a project management role. It is a genuine SAP architecture position for someone who understands how large SAP landscapes are designed, integrated, upgraded, migrated and successfully delivered in complex enterprise environments. The Opportunity You will be joining a significant SAP transformation program within a major retail environment, where SAP sits at the centre of critical business operations. The work will focus heavily on SAP S/4HANA, including upgrade planning, migration architecture, integration design, technical governance, solution alignment and enterprise-scale design. You will be expected to work across multiple streams, understand how decisions made in one area impact the broader SAP and non-SAP environment, and provide clear architectural direction to both technical and business audiences. The role requires someone who can see the whole landscape, not just one module, one integration point or one delivery stream. What You’ll Be Doing You will be responsible for helping define, shape and govern the architecture across a major SAP S/4HANA upgrade and migration program. Your work will include: • Leading SAP S/4HANA architecture design across a complex enterprise environment • Providing technical direction across upgrade, migration and integration activities • Designing and reviewing end-to-end SAP solution architecture • Working across SAP and non-SAP systems to ensure the broader technology landscape is properly aligned • Supporting technical decision-making across infrastructure, integration, data, security, application and delivery streams • Engaging with senior stakeholders to explain architectural options, risks, dependencies and recommendations • Translating business requirements into scalable technical and solution architecture • Reviewing designs, identifying gaps, and ensuring solutions are fit for purpose • Working with vendors, delivery partners and internal teams to ensure architectural consistency • Helping guide the program through design, build, migration, testing and implementation phases • Identifying risks early and providing clear, practical mitigation options What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone with proven experience as an SAP Architect, SAP Solution Architect, SAP Technical Architect or SAP Enterprise Architect within large, complex environments. You will ideally bring a background that is approximately 60-70% technical and 30-40% functional. You do not need to be the deepest functional specialist in every module, but you do need to understand how SAP supports business process, how decisions affect the end-to-end solution, and how to have credible conversations with functional leads and business stakeholders. Required experience: • Strong SAP S/4HANA architecture experience • Proven experience on SAP upgrade, migration or transformation programs • Background working in complex enterprise environments • Strong understanding of SAP technical architecture and integration principles • Experience designing large-scale SAP landscapes • Ability to work across SAP and surrounding enterprise systems • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills • Ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences • Experience working with vendors, partners, delivery teams and senior business stakeholders • Strong design, governance and architectural review capability • Ability to identify risks, dependencies and integration impacts across a program Highly Regarded Experience • Retail, supply chain, logistics, FMCG or high-volume transactional environments • SAP S/4HANA migration or brownfield upgrade experience • SAP ECC to S/4HANA transformation experience • SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, PI/PO, CPI or other integration platforms • Experience across finance, procurement, supply chain, inventory, warehouse, order management or retail operations • Cloud, infrastructure, data migration, security or enterprise integration exposure • Experience operating within large multi-stream transformation programs The Person Who Will Succeed This role will suit someone who is naturally curious, structured and commercially aware.
