Doral Mineral SandsPty Ltd (DMS), has well established heavy mineral sands mining and processing facilities near Bunbury, Busselton and Mandurah in the Southwest of WA. As part of the company's growth strategy, we arelooking to broaden our mineral sands operations within the Gascoyne region of WA.

The Mine Geologist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and sustainable extraction of mineable reserves on the mine site. The position is responsible for providing geological expertise to guide mining operations, including ore body characterisation, grade control, and production reconciliation. The Mine Geologist develops near-mine drilling plans, liaises with stakeholders, and maintains comprehensive geological databases.
Reporting to the Southern Operations Manager, the ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience as Mine Geologist - mineral sands experience is a bonus. There is a requirement to travel to other sites as needed.
The position will be responsible for the successful completion of the following duties and roles:
* Provide geological skills, advice and data necessary for mining personnel to run the mine site. Specific areas include but are not necessarily limited to:
* Orebody characterisation including mineral assemblage and product quality monitoring.
* Control over Overburden/Ore interfaces in active mining areas.
* Ongoing reconciliation reporting of model vs. production statistics.
* Validate and refine geological models based on in-pit observations and sampling.
* Contribute to Ore Reserve documentation.
* Maintain sample integrity and data traceability from collection through to analysis.
* Develop 2 year near-mine drilling plan and assist Mine Manager develop budget.
* Liaise with nearby landowners, key stakeholders, state and local authorities.
* Report near mine/exploration findings and recommendations.
* Contribute to monitoring and communicating environmental matters (PASS, surface water, groundwater, etc.).
* Review Third party projects as required.
* Ensure that decisions are based with a total business outlook to ensure effective decisions are made.
* Clearly understand how your activities and responsibilities affect those of other personnel to help ensure that the company's goals are achieved in an efficient and effective manner.
* Help and support peers including contractors/consultants within the operation to complete activities in a safe and efficient manner.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Geology or equivalent.
* Experience in large scale open pit mining, preferably in unconsolidated sedimentary deposits (mineral sands industry desirable).
* Knowledge of grade control principles, sampling theory, resource estimation processes.
* Competency with geological modelling and data software such as Surpac.
* Proficiency in database systems and data analysis tools.
* Holds or is willing to obtain a Statutory Supervisor certification.
* Sound knowledge of mineral sands geo-metallurgy concerns to provide support to metallurgists.
* Demonstrated air-core drilling and logging experience.
* Demonstrated diagnostics and trouble shooting ability.
* Ability to work independently in the field and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams.
* High attention to detail with a proactive and safety-first mindset
